Goessel’s Jake Wiens – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Visit Wichita

Jake Wiens of Goessel was one of the top running backs in 8-Man Division last season as he rushed for over 1,200 yards and 27 touchdowns, along with two passing touchdowns.

“I expect that we will have a similar year to last year in terms of record and playoffs especially with our experienced backfield,” Wiens said. “For myself I expect to improve from last year and have better knowledge and overall game on both sides of the ball.”

One of Wiens strengths is how instinctual he is on the field, but at the same time, he also feels like it’s a weakness, too.

“I would say one of my weaknesses is also a strength,” Wiens said. “That is that I sometimes attack too hard and let my instincts take over. But it is not always a bad thing to not think and just do on the field for me.”

Goessel lost to Meade in the sectional round of the playoffs and Wiens wants to improve the team chemistry for this season.

“Something I took away from last season is learning to play as a team will give us more success,” Wiens said. “None of us can do it all alone and everyone has their role.”
