The Hillsboro and Sterling basketball teams are no strangers to each other, as they were league rivals for many years in the Central Kansas League.
While the two teams do not play on a regular basis anymore, there is still a level of familiarity between two programs with a successful history.
The No. 8 seeded Trojans knocked off top-seeded Pratt-Skyline in the quarterfinals of the 2A Tournament, while the No. 5 seed Black Bears defeated No. 4 seed Erie.
Prediction: Building on his 16-point performance against Pratt-Skyline, sophomore Matthew Potucek scored 19 points as Hillsboro continued its postseason run with a 53-48 victory.
The Trojans led by as many as 11 points in the second half, but the Black Bears cut their deficit to 49-47 with one minute left. Hillsboro made four of five free throws to earn a bid in the title game against Bishop Seabury.
Hillsboro simply ran out of gas against a talented Bishop Seabury team. The Trojans trailed by as many as 16 in the first half and never managed to get much closer in the second half as they lost 65-50. They finished the season 16-10.
