Wichita State’s Brandon Bonta: Bowler of the Month Spotlight Presented By The Alley

By Matt Browning

Being a champion is just in the blood of Wichita State’s Brandon Bonta.

From being a two-time state champion at Wichita Northwest to now being a part of the Shockers’ national championship team, Bonta has only known winning.

“Winning a national title feels unbelievable,” Bonta said. “It’s every collegiate bowler’s dream to be a champion at the end of the year and for us to do that is truly incredible.”

Winning the national championship was certainly something Bonta thought was possible for WSU.

“Coming into this year, being runners-up the year before, we knew we had the team to win a championship,” Bonta said. “We just had to put it all together and this year we fought through all of the diversity to be champions.”

Bonta was put in the position to anchor the Shockers team at nationals and he was pleased with how he performed.

“I threw a couple of great shots in the tenth to have us advance to the TV show,” Bonta said. “That will for sure go down as my favorite college moment so far.”

While winning the national title was an incredible feeling, Bonta does not want he or his teammates to be satisfied with just one.

“Everyone loves winning, but win you get a taste of it at the highest level you want it all over again,” Bonta said. “Just staying ready to work and wanting to win more will be how we stay motivated.”
