Sterling’s Bella Brownlee – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Visit Salina

By Hayden Swope

Sterling’s Bella Brownlee has worked all spring to better her strengths and skills, and this season has been nothing short of successful for Brownlee.

“The most memorable moment of this track season was probably winning the 4×400 relay at the Ellinwood track meet,” Brownlee said. “My team and I ended up beating our time from the previous week by five seconds. Not only that, but we moved up in the ranks of 2A. I believe that we are now sitting in third place.”

With state around the corner, Brownlee hopes to see her and her team making a name for themselves at the meet.

“This season, I had the goal to focus on the 4×400 and place at state,” Brownlee said. “I believe that my team has the chance to win, so that is what we’re aiming for. My coach wants us to run a 4:10, which is five seconds faster than we have been running. I think we can do it, but it will take a lot of mental toughness to achieve it.”

While Brownlee’s time is spent on the track during the spring, you could also find her playing other sports year-round.

“I participate in three sports at Sterling High School; cross country, basketball, and track,” Brownlee said. “I also participate in choir and band. For clubs, I am a representative in the Student Council and I am the National Honors Society president.”

Brownlee plans to take her education to a higher level this upcoming school year, hoping to major in engineering.

“I am attending York College of Pennsylvania this fall,” Brownlee said. “I will be majoring in electrical engineering.”
