Spencer Coup of Solomon could not wait for the golf season to start this spring.
He has seen substantial improvement in his game since his season ended last May, which gives him hope that he will win a state championship this season.
“I’m mostly looking forward to how much I’ve improved over the past year, and implementing it into a tournament,” Coup said. “I’ve been looking forward to the season ever since last year ended just because of the strides I took last year. I expect to take bigger ones this year and I trust the work I put in to pay off.”
Off the tee and around the green are two areas where Coup feels confident, but getting his iron play on that same level was his focus this past offseason.
“To get those irons dialed in and feeling right I just started with the basic fundamentals on the range and eventually worked my way up to doing drills,” Coup said.
In the weather-shortened 1A Tournament last season, Coup finished one stroke out of first place. He has not forgotten about that.
“I think a successful season for me as an individual would be to place in the top five in every tournament I play in, win our league tournament again, and go back to the state tournament,” Coup said. “To top the season off and finish the right way, I’d love to win state as an individual just because of how close I was last year.”
