SE of Saline’s Dylan Esch – Athlete Spotlight Presented By American Family Insurance, Jeff Wells

By Hayden Swope

Dylan Esch, a golfer at Southeast of Saline, has had a record year with himself and his team. Esch was chosen as the American Family Insurance Athlete of the Month for June, as he carried a regular season scoring average of 77.1 and shot a low score of 71.

“This season has been all about making a name for our team and making a name for myself,” Esch said. “This is the first season in which I have performed at a level that I am happy with, and that to me is very memorable. It would be pretty selfish to not mention my team in this question though. We have an amazing group of kids and I truly believe that I would not be here without everyone from the last JV player, to our coach.”

Esch spent the offseason working and training with his coach. The hard work paid off during the regular season, and Esch hopes to make it to state this year.

“My coach and I have worked a ton on my swing in the past couple of months and in the offseason,” Esch said. “We wanted to get me to a point where I could go out and play golf instead of golf swing. As far as postseason goes, I want to win a state championship. I wouldn’t be out here competing if I didn’t want to be the best; there would simply be no point.”

While Esch made goals at the beginning of the year to perfect his game, Esch’s biggest goal is to forever keep golf in his life.

“As far-fetched as it sounds, I want to take my passion for golf as far as I possibly can,” Esch said. “My coach, Randy Syring, has had a tremendous impact on my golf career, as well as my growth as a person. I am far from done in my highschool career, and I am excited to see what doors open up for me when it comes to playing at the next level.”
