Salina South’s Erik Franco – Athlete Spotlight Presented By American Family Family Insurance, Daran Neuschafer

By Hayden Swope

As a sophomore last year, Salina South’s Erik Franco was not only a starter, but was also an All-AVCTL second team athlete. Ready to be back this year, Franco is excited to go out on the field with his team again this season.

“I would say the most exciting thing about this season is definitely getting the opportunity to play the game I love the most,” Franco said.

During the offseason, Franco wanted to reach every goal he had, and put in a ton of work in order to achieve them.

“I definitely wanted to improve how quick I was and how fast I react and with that I lost some weight in order to be able to do that,” Franco said. “During the offseason I have been working just about every day that I can.”

While working on his abilities on the field, Franco also worked on his mentality and leadership off the field to help his team succeed this season.

“As an individual, I just wanted to stay locked in mentally and physically throughout the season, and a team goal would definitely be to lead the team to a victory against Central,” Franco said.

With lots of time to decide, Franco is still considering playing college ball, as well as continuing his education.

“I don’t believe I’m going to play college football but if the chance comes around I might just take it,” Franco said. “But if not, after high school I plan to get my software engineering degree.”
