Lyons’ Yamyle Ramirez – Call Of The Wild Athlete Presented By Commercial Tire

By Matt Browning

Up until last year, softball was always Lyons’ Yamyle Ramirez priority, but then she decided to give track a try and did it ever pay off.

Ramirez had four top ten finishes in both the long jump and triple jump last season, with a PR in the triple jump at regionals.

“I’m looking forward to being able to long jump and triple jump my senior year at a competitive level,” Ramirez said. “I took off several years from track while competing year round in softball. However, last year was my first year back and I look forward to continuing getting better and more explosive with each attempt.”

The triple jump was a particular event that Ramirez focused on improving over the offseason.

“An area that I personally have been trying to improve on is my second phase within my triple jump and improve on my landing to maximize my distance on jumps,” Ramirez said. “This past offseason I trained on my own, worked hard within my weights and conditioning class and joined the Lyons High School Powerlifting team to work on my strength, flexibility and explosion.”

Being a state qualifier in both events are goals that Ramirez, a senior, hopes to attain this May.

“I would consider going to state a successful track season for either long jump or triple jump, my two field events that I have a passion for,” Ramirez said.
