Hutchinson’s Kevin Wilson – Poll Winner Presented By Salina Tech

By Matt Browning

In order to be the best, a team has to beat the best and Hutchinson’s Kevin Wilson has that mentality heading into the 2023 campaign.

The Salthawks’ three losses last season were to Derby and Maize twice and one of the things Wilson wants to accomplish this season is revenge. If Hutchinson takes cares of these things, then a significant fall could be in order.

“A goal I have for our team is to beat the two teams we lost to last year and make it to the state championship game,” Wilson said.

Wilson racked up 100 tackles last season, 20 of which were unassisted. He also had six tackles for a loss and one forced fumble.

While his statistics led him to being selected to the AVCTL Division I first team, Wilson wants more.

“A goal I have for the season is to get more tackles than I did last year and one up my accomplishments,” Wilson said. “One area that I want to improve on this year is making sure that everyone is lined up correctly and I want to help with pass coverage.”

The summer has been busy for Wilson, not only individually, but as a team, too.

“During the off-season I went to a Sharp Performance top prospect camp in Salina,” Wilson said. “We also have weights four out of the five days during the week and we had installs which were short, one hour sessions going over coverages preparing for the season. We have also had two team camps this summer and went to two jamborees.”
