Grace Hett, Marion HS – Prep Performance Of The Month Presented By Hog Wild

By Matt Browning

Marion’s Grace Hett was a first team all-league selection last season, but this year brings a whole new set of challenges for the senior.

“The most exciting aspect of this season has been getting to learn a whole different position on the court,” Hett said. “I am an outside hitter this year because of graduated players.  I told my coach that I would step in wherever I am needed. It has been a lot of fun for me and has helped my backrow as well.”

Considering this Hett’s first year as an outside hitter, her statistics are solid. Through Oct 4th, she had 167 kills, with a .212 hitting percentage to go along with 262 digs.

“During the off season, I continued to spend lots of time in the gym and continue to work with my trainer to become stronger and quicker,” Hett said. “Since my coach needed me to hit for my high school team this fall, I put a focus on my vertical and fine-tuning my hitting technique this summer.”

Marion does not have the biggest team, so Hett said they will have to do all of the smaller things in order to succeed.

“If we can work hard for everything and give 100 percent all of the time, we can compete with those bigger and stronger teams,” Hett said. “My goal this season individually was to help my team in any way that they would need to use me.”
