Coming off of a year where Cunningham guard Luke Albers averaged 15.7 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game, and 2.6 assists per game, he was able to help lead the Wildcats to a 14-win season where they found themselves just two points away from the state tournament.

Albers is a shooting guard with the tools and athletic ability to thrive in transition but knows that he has to take a step in the leadership department if they want to get over the hump.

“I need to be a leader,” Albers said. “With losing two leaders from last year, I need to take control as a team leader and just get the whole team better every day.”

The junior found his spot on the team early in his sophomore year due to some injuries to some keep players.

“Coming into the sophomore season, I didn’t play a whole lot the first few games,” Albers said. “Last year, senior Trey Deweese went down with a season-ending injury, and I stepped up as a player and teammate. I came into practice trying to get everyone better day by day.”

Albers knows that he can’t do it all himself, though.

“This year, we have some great athletes,” Albers said. “In my opinion, Will Wegerer is one of the best shooting in all of 1A. He’s going to have a breakout season, and I am looking forward to where this season takes us.”
