In Bishop Carroll’s 14-7 playoff loss to Hutchinson last year, starting quarterback Jackson King managed to complete only four passes on 13 attempts for 77 yards.
King has not forgotten about that game and it lit a fire under him all offseason.
“I still have a bad taste in my mouth from last year’s playoff run and it’s nice to have another opportunity,” King said. “We play a really hard schedule this year, so it’s going to be necessary to want to compete every single week. We have the guys to win and it’s going to be a blast to play every week with them.”
The tradition-filled Golden Eagles have a deep playoff run in mind in 2023 and King is an important reason why.
The senior quarterback compiled over 2,200 total yards with 24 touchdowns in 2022 en route to being an honorable mention all-league and all-state selection.
While last season was certainly solid, King focused on being a more consistent thrower during his workouts.
“I want to improve my consistency throwing,” King said. “I need to be able to put the ball in the right spot every time. I’ve been working with Coach Hoover to clean up some of my mechanics to make me more consistent. The receivers and I have worked together throughout the summer to get our timing down and get on the same page. We have a veteran receiver group returning and I have gained a lot of confidence in my guys over the last couple months.”
