Bennington’s Jace Ohlson took first place at regionals, and fourth at the state track meet last season in the pole vault. Now entering his junior season, Ohlson hopes to continue his success.
“My main goal for this season is to clear 14 feet,” Ohlson said. “I am getting closer with each practice and improving my pole vault form. My second goal is to place at state again, to do this I will need a completely vertical form.”
Ohlson not only worked and trained his physical abilities, but was tested with some mental barriers.
“For this season I spent many sessions up in Jamestown Kansas at Tailwind Pole Vault,” Ohlson said. “While I was in Jamestown I was fighting a mental block which Doc Breault helped me through. He helped drastically with my form to allow me to reach higher heights.”
Besides track and field, Ohlson keeps himself busy doing other sports and clubs throughout the year.
“I am an officer in both the Bennington FFA Chapter and the Pleasant Valley 4-H club, I am a captain of the football team, and I am also in weightlifting,” Ohlson said.
Ohlson hopes to continue his academic career after high school, and take his track career to the next level.
“I am planning on majoring in physical education, hoping to continue my track career in college,” Ohlson said.
