Hillsboro’s Brekyn Ratzlaff – Athlete Spotlight Presented By All Seasons Sportswear

By Matt Browning

Brekyn Ratzlaff of Hillsboro was chosen as the All Seasons Letterman of the Month for November. Ratzlaff was a first team all-league selection for the Trojans last season.

While Ratzlaff had a strong junior campaign, where he averaged 12 points, four steals and three assists per game, he worked diligently in the gym over the summer to improve what he deemed to be weaknesses.

“I have been in the weight room and focusing on getting stronger and finishing better around the rim,” Ratzlaff said.

The Trojans lost a significant amount of talent off last season’s 2A state championship, but that has not detoured Ratzlaff from focusing on repeating.

“My expectations are the same as they were these last years and that is to win a state championship,” Ratzlaff said. “My goal individually would be to get player of the year again. My team goal is to win state.”

Hillsboro head coach Darren Knoll said one of Ratzlaff’s best attributes is how he makes everyone around him better.

“He is smart on both offense and defense,” Knoll said. “Brekyn is a tremendous passer, a big shot maker, a tough defender, and a true competitor. Brekyn has great poise and basketball IQ.”

Ratzlaff has desires to play college basketball, but at this time is not sure where.
