Abilene High School’s Triston Cottone – Presented by Salina Regional Medical Center

By Matt Browning

Triston Cottone of Abilene runs cross country for the Cowboys and was selected as the American Family Insurance Athlete of the Month. “I feel very honored that you have chosen me to be athlete of the month,” Cottone said. “I have been working very hard to get better and it seems like an achievement to be asked to be in this magazine.”

It has been a highly successful season for Cottone, who has set a personal record in almost every meet and the Cowboys have been ranked in Class 4A for most of the season. “What I’m striving for this year is for our cross country team to make it to state, boys and girls, and (for me) to try and be top 15 so I could go to state individually as well,” Cottone said. “I’m pushing myself more and more each week to try and be the best I can be.”

Cottone also was a part of the Cowboys’ basketball team last season that went 13-6 and he ran track, too.

At this time, he does not have college plans and rather is focused on finishing his high school academic and athletic career on a successful note.
