Salina South’s Kylie Arnold – Athlete of the Month Presented by American Family

By Travis Sloat

As a senior basketball player and track standout for Salina South High School, Kylie Arnold said she was focused on helping build a legacy that will outlast her remaining months in high school. “Having a great group of seniors who took me in as a freshman, I’ve always looked forward to being in this position,” Arnold said. “I try to make sure everyone is included and bring a positive attitude and encouragement to every practice. On the court, I think talking to my teammates and knowing the game helps us all be successful.”

When it comes to goals for her final season, Arnold said she has a few for herself, but most are for the team. “With a new coach, I feel like it’s important we work hard to get his career off to a good start,” she said. “That will also help build momentum for the rest of the season. As a team we also need to improve our win count from last season and compete to win every game. My personal goals are to play with more confidence and be the leader my team needs,” she added.

Arnold said she started playing basketball in fourth grade and beginning running in middle school. She said both sports give her the opportunity to be competitive, as well as being challenged both physically and mentally.

After high school, Arnold said she wants to continue her athletic career at the next level, but at the moment she is undecided what she wants to major in. In her free time, she said she enjoys hanging out with friends, going to sporting events, and going on runs with her dad.
