When Brandt Cox of Salina South High School first stepped onto a football field to compete, he was only in the third grade. Now he is the starting running back for the Cougars and he loves competing with his teammates. The team chemistry is important to Cox as the senior looks to finish his high school career on a positive note.

“I love how close we all can get in a short amount of time,” said Cox.

After a season of battling some injuries that kept him from having the type of year he is capable of having, Cox has regrouped and is focused on making the most of every carry. His goals for this season show he is determined to help his team win.

“My goals for this season are to get over 1,000 yards rushing and 300 yards receiving,” said Cox.

Despite the injuries Cox was still able to put a season together that earned him 2nd Team All-League honors. Running the ball is just one aspect of his game. Cox is a devastating blocker and can catch out of the backfield. At 6-foot-1 and 195-pounds, Cox is a perfect combination of strength, power, and speed. Representing the green and gold is an honor for Cox.

“I love how the kids look up to me. Knowing that I am a role model to some of them and being able to connect with the kids is what I love most about being a student-athlete at South,” said Cox.

Also a track and field athlete, Cox said when he has down time he enjoys spending it with friends playing sports.
