Concordia’s Shelby Giersch – Salina Area “Call of the Wild” Outdoors Spotlight Presented by Commercial Tire

Concordia High School football and baseball player Shelby Giersch has had a fishing pole in his hands for as long as he can remember. He also started hunting at a very young age.

“I recently started bow fishing around three years ago and I’m in love with that. I started hunting around six or seven years old,” said Giersch. “My grandpa and my dad both got me started with hunting and fishing.”

Giersch said he spent countless hours with his grandfather in the outdoors and he prefers hunting but enjoys doing both.

“I prefer hunting more than I do fishing. The reason is I feel more one with nature when I’m sitting there just listening to nature and watching it do its own thing,” said Giersch. “I would have to say one of my favorite fishing stories is when I went to the lake with my dad and grandpa and we were on the lake for eight to nine hours on the boat and we didn’t even have time to cast out our poles because when we reeled one in, there was another one right after on another pole.”

Giersch is also a member of the Scholars Bowl team at Concordia and plans to attend college after he graduates.
