Sacred Heart’s Hannah Goetz and Amber Palen – Senior Shoutout Presented by Salina Ortho

Hannah Goetz and Amber Palen have both played volleyball for several years. Goetz started in junior high while Palen has played for as long as she can remember.

Throughout high school I mainly played libero but would get moved to setter as needed,” said Goetz. “I played as a setter up until the end of my freshman year and then made the transition to the middle blocker and outside hitting positions my sophomore through senior years,” Palen told VYPE.

The pair loves playing and representing Sacred Heart on and off the court.  “I love the chemistry that me and my teammates have. We have known each other for so long because we all grew up together in grade school into high school,” said Goetz. “I love that we were able to have the same team both my junior and senior years; It made our bond that much stronger. We all love the game and have gotten together at sonic to play sand volleyball during the summer and love to just compete against each other,” Palen said.

The pair share many memories together including tournaments, practices, bus rides and fun times on their home court.

“My favorite memory from high school volleyball was winning the Ellsworth  Tournament. It was a long yet rewarding day that had a few funny moments during some of the games,” said Goetz. “It’s so hard to choose just one favorite memory but I’d have to say that my favorite memory was our final game in the sub-state tournament this year against Ellsworth,” said Palen.

Goetz will continue her education at Kansas Wesleyan University where she will play basketball, while Palen will attend Kansas State University where she will study Communication Sciences and Disorders. She hopes to one day work as a Speech Pathologist. Goetz would like a career in nursing.
