Salina Central’s Cooper Chard – Player of the Month Presented by Jean Curry Shelter Insurance

Senior and team captain Cooper Chard is currently ranked No.6 in the state at 160-pounds. The Salina Central wrestler approached his final season with a workman’s attitude, preparing in many of the same ways he has in the past.

“I have not done anything different to prepare for this season other than to work on my takedowns,” said Chard.

Now 26-1, Chard has taken on a leadership role with his team.

“A leader means to help my teammates be the best and want to see them succeed just as much as I want to succeed myself,” said Chard. “What I love most about my teammates is that they all wrestle with a lot of heart and we all want to see each other succeed.”

The classroom is another area Chard has worked hard in this year. Academics never take a backseat.

“My academics are very important to me because they can propel me into a good future,” said Chard. “My plans after I graduate are to go to Emporia St. or KU and get my Biology degree then go on to specialize in optometry.”

Chard said he’s proud to represent Central.

“The best thing about being a student-athlete at Central is that they allow you many different opportunities and all the teachers are really understanding.”
